Custodial / Janitorial

We are currently seeking to fill a full time Custodial / Janitorial vacancy, working at the Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre (The DI).

Who are you?
Reporting to the Facilities and Maintenance Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible to perform routine cleaning and maintenance at all the buildings and properties of The DI, including preventative maintenance.

This position is full time; 40 hours per week with 5 days on, 2 days off. Some unusual hours may be required from time to time as the need arises. These hours may be altered at the discretion of management.

The Job

  • Operate industrial cleaner to remove scraps, dirt, heavy debris and other refuse
  • Wash windows, interior walls and ceilings
  • Empty trash cans and other waste containers
  • Sweep, mop, scrub and wax hallways, floors and stairs
  • Clean snow and ice from walkways and parking areas
  • Cut grass and tend grounds
  • Clean and disinfect washrooms and fixtures
  • Required to perform various preventive maintenance procedures on a scheduled basis
  • May water and tend to plants
  • May move heavy furniture, equipment and supplies
  • Ensure that security and safety measures are in place in the establishment
  • Perform other routine maintenance jobs that are requested by your Manager or Directors

Qualifications and Essential Skills

  • At least two (2) years of cleaning and maintenance experience
  • Excellent communication and outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work well as a team member of the maintenance department and/or be comfortable working alone
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects safely, up to 50 lbs
  • Demonstrate initiative with a proactive and flexible attitude
  • Ability to multi task
  • A clean, valid driver’s license (must be at least 25 years of age) would be a definite asset
